Name Your Own Painter Styles
Learning Corel Painter is the first step in your journey to sell new products and services. Retraining your clients and exposing your new paintings to the public must go hand in hand with learning the software. Marketing, pricing and selling your paintings is as important as creating the painting itself.

Creating your own names for the different painting styles you create will help to give you an identity with your clientele in your business area. Don't name them the traditional names like "watercolors" or "oils". Be original and name the styles something more interesting. The following painting styles illustrate the idea behind this.

The little blue-eyed blonde girl painting can be called "Storybook Paintings" because the style there reminds me of children's book illustrations. Very clean and pure and illustrative.

The blonde woman in the pink outfit has a heavy-handed impasto layered look. This style might be called "Skin Deep Paintings" because the skin has so much depth to it. The little blonde girl with the big beautiful eyes has the same layered painting method and would also fit nicely into Skin Deep Paintings.

The mother and baby painting represents a more traditional type of painting, but I would never call it oils or traditional because it would confuse the clients expectations. It could be called “Contemporary Painting” and that would give it credibility as art in a conservative style. The young lady in the pink sweater also fits into this painting category.

This family portrait has a loose style but with very strong brushwork. The details of the faces are still very recognizable and painterly. A style of painting this strong needs to be classified as one of strength. This I call “Passionate Painting” because I can almost feel the passion in the brushstrokes making a statement of strength and passion of the family unit.

Lastly, the dark haired girl that is a combo of Painter and Photoshop might be called "Artistic Impressions Paintings" because it's a combination of two methods and is neither a painting nor a sketch.

The idea is to take away the word "digital" and create new product names for your styles of paintings. The sooner the clients are trained to use your new names, the sooner you will begin selling them. It's important to learn a variety of styles of painting with Painter, not just one method. That way you can entice more clients to buy by appealing to more people.

These new names are the ones you will be using for the photography sessions that you are selling and you will always be creating new styles by continually painting for yourself and not just for your commissioned clients. That's the way you grow as an artist and explore new painting methods.

Good luck, you will love Corel Painter.
