The Mystery & Magic of Fashion Photography
What it takes to be a ‘fashion’ photographer
by Struan
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Course
Struan uses urban and architectural backdrops strikingly, and many of his images have a narrative quality to them.
His black & white work has a 'film-noir' style, stark, deeply shadowed and evocative. His ultimate skill is breathing life, emotion, and passion into a successful strategic fashion statement. *
* Applied Art Magazine article.

Photographers will be introduced to the creative fashion world through lighting and direction. You will learn what it takes to produce a fashion shoot as well as directing models and working with make-up artists and their entire “crew” on set. Fashion photography is based on ‘fantasy’, where ‘nice’ shots don’t make the cut. Struan will broaden your vision to where you will only be limited by your imagination.

This is NOT a photography course.
It is about challenging your creative and directional skills and finding your fashion photography ‘Style’.
This workshop is for photographers that have a basic understanding of light, composition and exposure. We will not be showing you how to set your shutter speed and f-stop. Participants should have a sound technical background of photographing with their digital SLR cameras in manual mode and using their own laptop/desktop computers to review, edit, save and store their images safety. Although this is not an advanced Photoshop workshop, a basic familiarity with your computer is essential. Computer literacy, navigation and mouse skills in Photoshop are also very helpful in creating web galleries and professional prints.
