Digital imaging is today's darkroom and it can be frustrating if you want to achieve a specific look and yet the tools seem too complex. Through problem-solving exercises this course will de-mystify the process and give you practice using these tools to create your own unique style.

This is a hands-on course designed to introduce you to the world of creative imaging and the opportunity to further your knowledge of digital imaging software and techniques. Dramatically boost your productivity and enhance your creative possibilities with Tony's 20 years as a photographer and instructor of Photoshop functions. His past students and fellow instructors have all given him rave reviews for his Photoshop knowledge and teaching skills.

Instructor: Tony Pickard

Tony Pickard is currently a full-time professor and coordinator of the Digital Photography and Imaging diploma program at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. His professional experience includes over 20 years in multimedia and special effects production for corporate clients, video game producers, video productions and large scale projects such as the 1988 Calgary Olympics He is also an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in Photoshop and has been using Photoshop professionally since version 1.0. As a full time educator with a combined passion for teaching, photography and computer software, he brings the right combination of experience and training.

"Porcelain" - Crystal Lee Black

Using the latest versions of Photoshop (CS5) and Lightroom (3) you will learn how to take full advantage of non-destructive editing and productive workflow techniques. The course will instruct you in the use of multiple layers, advanced masking, layer styles, adjustment layers, smart objects and filters, creating custom brushes, working with channels, smart sharpening, image compositing, content-aware scaling and fill, workflow integration between Photoshop and Lightroom using best practices to allow you to be more creative and efficient.

Prerequisites

This workshop is for photographers that have a basic understanding of light, composition and exposure. Tony will not be showing you how to set your shutter speed and f:stop. Participants should have a sound technical background of photographing with their digital SLR cameras in manual mode and using their own laptop/desktop computers to review, edit, save and store their images safety.

Student Equipment Required

  • Digital SLR camera and lenses, flashes, laptop or desktop computer and/or image storage devices
  • Camera memory cards (s) -I suggest at least 2 Gigs of storage per card – 4 Gigs preferred.
  • Manuals for all of the gear you will be using or have questions about.
  • Pencils, notepads, tape/video recorder, whatever you would to use to take notes of class
  • Your own laptop or desktop computer. A 30 day trial version of Photoshop may be downloaded before you arrive at NSI. Your instructor will help you with the download if need be. Your instructor will also contact you by email to let you know if there are any specific software requirements for your course.
